GREENWOOD, S.C. − Zach Bove (Winter Haven, Fla./Central Florida CC) went 7-for-10 with three doubles and four runs batted in to help lead Flagler College to a Peach Belt Conference East Division doubleheader split at Lander University Saturday afternoon at Legion Field. Flagler rallied to win the opener 12-8 and Lander rallied two win the second game 10-9.

Flagler is now 22-20 overall and 10-10 in the Peach Belt. The Saints are 5-6 in the division with four games to play and holds at No. 4 in the East which is the last playoff qualifying spot. Lander is now 23-18 overall and 6-14 in the conference. The Bearcats are 4-10 in the division and needs a win in the rubber game tomorrow to remain in the playoff hunt.

In the opener, Flagler used a seven-run fifth inning to rally from a 6-4 deficit en route to the win. The Saints sent 11 men to the plate, collected five hits and took advantage of a Bearcat miscue to tally four unearned runs.

Trailing 6-5 in the top of the fifth, Bove hit a one-out single to start the rally. John Sgromolo (Fleming Island, Fla./Clay HS) followed with a single and two batters later Travis Coverston (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) belted a three-run home run to left field to give Flagler an 8-6 lead. The bases were re-loaded with the aid of two walks and a single. Cale Owen (Clearwater, Fla./home school) reached on an error by Lander shortstop Brooks Reames which plated another run. The next batter, Will Percy (Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary's HS) was hit by a pitch which scored another run and chased starter Drew Elliott from the game. Bove, batting for the second time in the inning, greeted reliever Derek Whaley with a two-run double to cap the scoring.

Bove went 2-for-4 with the double and two RBI for the Saints. Sgromolo singled twice. Payne Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) added an RBI double in the fourth. All but one starter for Flagler had at least one hit.

Heath Storey (Kennett, Mo./Jefferson College) (2-0) tossed five innings in relief to earn the win. He allowed five hits, two runs and struck out a career-high seven batters. Johnny Gaines (Jacksonville, Fla./Hillsborough CC) started and went four-plus innings, surrendered seven hits, three earned runs and fanned five.

Joe Tebaldi paced the Bearcats going 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in. Robert Skinner Pete Hernandez each singled, doubled and drove in two while Alex Abreu singled, doubled and drove in one run.

Elliott (0-2) started on the mound for Lander and tossed four and two-thirds innings, allowed eight hits, eight earned runs and walked five.

In the second game, Lander rallied from a 5-1 deficit to take an 8-7 lead after a four-run seventh inning and held on to win 10-9.

Jordan Owens led the Bearcats going 4-for-5 with three home runs and collected five RBI.

Owens hit a two-run homer in the seventh to cut Flagler's lead to 7-6. Two batters later Bud Lanier tripled and Abreu walked. Tyler McKendree (Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) came in to reliever starter Adam Jaudon (St. Augustine, Fla./Pedro Menendez HS). McKendree struck out the first batter he saw, but Abreu stole second. With a base open, Tebaldi was intentionally walked, but on McKendree's first pitch to Tebaldi, he was called for a balk which tied the game. The next batter, Ryan McNulty hit an RBI single to put Lander ahead 8-7.

The Saints tied the game 8-all in the top of the eight on an infield single by Ollie Bertrand (Sainte-Adèle, Quebec/Monroe CC).

In the bottom of the eighth, Owens hit his third home run of the game, a two-run shot, to give Lander the lead it would not relinquish.

The Saints tallied a run in the ninth, but left the tying run at second base.

Robert Skinner singled twice and doubled for the Bearcats. Tebaldi singled and doubled.

Ross Davis (2-3) earned the win in relief, going two innings, allowing three hits, two runs and striking out three. Ben Runyon collected his first save after closing out the ninth.

Bove went 5-for-6 with a pair of doubled and two RBI. Jose Rohena (Tampa, Fla./St. Petersburg College) hit a pair of doubles for the Saints.

McKendree (1-3) took the loss in relief after finishing the last inning and two-thirds, allowing three hits and two runs. Jaudon tossed six and one-third innings, surrendered 11 hits and eight runs, but did strike out five.

The same two teams meet tomorrow for a single-game at 1 p.m.
