ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − Flagler College rallied for a win in the first game, 3-2 in 10 innings, and then lost the second game, 5-4, to UNC Pembroke in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
Flagler's record stands at 21-17 overall and 5-5 in the Peach Belt while UNC Pembroke goes to 26-13 overall and 9-7 in the conference.
In the opener, Flagler scored two unearned runs in the 10th inning to rally to a win.
Andy Hay (Land 'O Lakes, Fla./Polk CC) led off the inning by reaching on an error by UNCP second baseman Ashley Harrell. Pinch hitter
Chelsea Welch (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia HS) ripped a single up the middle.
Brittney Hatem (Hialeah, Fla./Wallace CC-Dothan) hit a slow roller just outside of the circle to move the runners up a base.
Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) socked a two-run single to left-center to win the game.
The Saints scored first when
Heather Hill (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Indian River CC) drew a bases loaded walk in the first inning.
The score would remain the same until the top of the sixth when Holly Berry, of UNC Pembroke, belted a solo home run to left to tie the game. Berry also had an RBI single in the 10th inning to put the Braves on top 2-1.
Four different Saints had singles and
Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla./Central Florida CC) (13-9) went the distance and scattered six hits, allowed two runs and struck out 14 batters.
Alex Hartshorn (11-4) also tossed a complete game and surrendered four hits, one earned run and struck out eight.
Berry led the Braves by going 2-for-4 with the home run and collected two runs batted in.

In the second game, the Braves erupted for four runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 5-4 win.
Jelena Shaw hit a bases loaded RBI single to break the 1-all tie in the fourth. Another run came in on a fielder's choice, but it was Berry again with a big hit – a two-run single – to give UNCP a commanding 5-1 lead.
The Saints chipped away by getting two runs in the home half of the fourth.
Brittany Simmons (Ocala, Fla./Chattanooga State Tech CC) hit a run scoring single and Ely hit a sacrifice fly.
Flagler cut the deficit to a run on a sacrifice fly by
Sam Boatner (Auburndale, Fla./Polk CC) which turned into a double play.
Jamie Burwell (5-1) picked up the win in relief after tossing two innings, allowing two hits and an unearned run. Hartshorn pitched the final inning and two-thirds to pick up her second save of the season. She allowed just one hit.
Shaw went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Berry hit three singles and drove in two runs.
Boatner (1-1) started and went four innings, allowed seven hits and five runs.
Ely went 2-for-3 with an RBI and
Tori Jolley (Keystone Heights, Fla./Keystone Heights HS) singled twice and drove in a run.
Flagler hosts Francis Marion University tomorrow (Mar. 28) at 11 a.m. at Saints Field The doubleheader had originally been scheduled for a noon start, but the time was moved due to impending weather.
