AMERICUS, Ga. − Georgia Southwestern State University scored an unearned run in the eighth to take game one, 7-6, but Flagler College took the second game, 14-8, by pounding out 13 hits and taking advantage of four errors in a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium.

The Hurricanes went to 18-8 overall and 8-4 in the Peach Belt. Flagler heads home with an 18-13 overall record and a 6-6 mark in league play.

In the opener, Flagler rallied to tie the game 6-all in the top of the eighth on a two-run single by Cale Owen (Clearwater, Fla./home school).

However, Georgia Southwestern answered in the bottom half of the inning of reliever Tim Lappin (Jacksonville, Fla./Paxon HS). Bud Long reached on an error by Flagler third baseman Travis Coverston (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep). Long to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a ground out. Zack Stanton lined out to left which scored Long.

The Hurricanes jumped out to a 4-0 lead, plating a single run in the first and three in the second.

The Saints tied it up with a four-run fourth. Dagmar Pena (Jacksonville, Fla./U. of Tampa) hit a two-run single in the inning.

Georgia Southwestern jumped back out to a 6-4 lead with a two-run fourth.

Chris Carroll (2-0) earned the win in relief by tossing one and two-thirds shutout innings. He allowed five hits and struck out three.

Long went 3-for-5 with a double and drove in a run. Paschel Poston singled and doubled while Chris Lingham singled twice and collected two RBI.

Lappin (1-2) pitched one inning and surrendered an unearned run.

Owen hit four singles and drove in three runs for the Saints. Pena singled, doubled twice, and drove in two runs while Will Percy (Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary's) singled three times.

In the second game, Zach Bove (Winter Haven, Fla./Central Florida CC) hit a two-run double to spark a four-run fifth inning and Flagler went on to a 14-8 win.

The Saints added three more runs in the sixth to take a 9-5 lead, but the Hurricanes scored a run in the bottom of the sixth and added two more in the seventh to trail 9-8.

Flagler erupted for five runs in the ninth, aided by a two-run double by Percy, to put the game away.

Bove went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI while Charlie Stewart (Port St. Lucie, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy) singled, doubled and scored three runs. Percy hit a double and drove in four runs.

Johnny Gaines (Jacksonville, Fla./Hillsborough CC) (5-3) tossed five-plus innings, scattered 12 hits and allowed six runs. He struck out five.

Five different Hurricanes had two hits. Lingham singled twice and drove in two runs. Poston singled, homered and collected two RBI.

Tyler Daniel (2-4) went five-plus innings, surrendered four hits and four earned runs.

Flagler has a re-match against top-ranked Florida Southern College on Mar. 31 at Lakeland. The Saints knocked off the Mocs 4-1 last Wednesday at Flagler Stadium.
