LAKE WORTH, Fla. − Flagler College and Palm Beach Atlantic University split a non-conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Dave Manzo Park. PBA took the opener 4-1 while Flagler won the nightcap 6-3.

Flagler is now 5-5 on the season while PBA is 1-7.

In the opener, the Sailfish jumped on the Saints early with a run in the first and two more in the second and starter Logan Thomas (1-3) held Flagler in check by tossing seven-plus innings and scattered six hits, allowed one earned run and struck out four. He had the Saints hit into nine flyball outs and eight ground outs.

Scott Urbanek singled twice for PBA and Tommy Crews had a two-run single in the second which proved to be the game winning hit.

Travis Coverston (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) hit a solo home run in the fifth and also singled while Cale Owen (Clearwater, Fla./home school) singled twice.

Tim Lappin (Jacksonville, Fla./Paxon HS) (0-1) went four innings, allowed five hits and three runs in picking up the loss.

In game two, Zach Bove (Winter Haven, Fla./Central Florida CC) belted a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to carry Flagler to a 6-3 win.

Bove went 1-for-2 with a run scored and five more driven in. Jose Rohena (Tampa, Fla./St. Petersburg College) tripled.

Johnny Gaines (Jacksonville, Fla./Hillsborough CC) (1-2) picked up the win after tossing six innings and allowed four hits, two earned runs and fanned nine. Tyler McKendree (Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) pitched a scoreless seventh to earn his second save of the year.

The Sailfish were also limited to just four hits. Justin Sizemore hit a two-run double in the fourth and scored the tying run Sam Testa's pinch hit single in the same frame.

Reliever Chad Volbert (0-2) took the loss after hurling two and one-third innings, allowed one hit and three runs.

Flagler continues on the road for a game on Feb. 23 against Florida Tech in Melbourne at 2 p.m.
