ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − A five-run second inning propelled Florida Tech to a 9-5 win over Flagler College in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Flagler Stadium.

Florida Tech improved to 6-1 while Flagler fell to 3-4.

JD Davidson led off the second inning for the Panthers with a walk, then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Flagler catcher Payne Maddox (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep). Jose Vazquez singled Davidson with a grounder into the hole at shortstop. Later in the inning, John Mazur hit a bases loaded single which drove in a run and Gus Fernandez followed with a two-run double down the right field line. Flagler starter Gary Lohmann (Ormond Beach, Fla./Seabreeze HS) was lifted after the hit. A sacrifice fly by Michael Demma off reliever Zach Gray (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Bryan College) provided the eventual game winning run as Florida Tech built a 6-0 lead.

Will Percy (Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary's HS) hit an RBI single in the third inning to get the Saints on the board.

Ryan McChesney hit a two-run double to contribute to Florida Tech's three-run sixth inning.

Flagler plated four runs in the eighth as four-of-the-first-six batters singled of Panther reliever Cory Bernstine. Chris Jessop (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run HS) led off the inning with a pinch hit single. Pinch hitter Kevin Trembley (Daytona Beach, Fla./Father Lopez HS) followed with a base hit. Another pinch hitter, Justin McKenna (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Allen D. Nease HS) hit a one-out RBI single and then Trembley and McKenna advanced a base on a wild pitch. After a walk loaded the bases, Bernstine balked home another run and Nate Fudala (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin HS) hit an infield RBI single to first base and the Saints trailed 9-4. Flagler plated another run on a wild pitch but could not pull any closer.

Fernandez went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a solo home run, two runs scored and four RBI. Vazquez singled twice, scored a run and drove in another while James Mannara singled twice and scored once.

Josh Ziemba (2-0) went five innings and allowed six hits and one earned run.

John Sgromolo (Green Cove Springs, Fla./Clay HS) collected a pair of singles and scored a run. Lohmann (1-2) went one and one-third innings and gave up five hits and six runs. Adam Jaudon (St. Augustine, Fla./Pedro Menendez HS) pitched a solid one and two-thirds innings in relief striking out all five batters he faced.

Flagler heads down to West Palm Beach to take on Palm Beach Atlantic in a three-game series Feb. 19 and 20.
