PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. − The Flagler College men's golf team finished in a tie for sixth place after shooting a final round 306 for a total of 917 strokes at the Queens University of Charlotte Invitational which concluded Tuesday at TPC Sawgrass on Pete Dye's Valley Course (par 72; 6814 yards).

Abilene Christian University, ranked No. 5 in the latest Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches' Poll, led the 12-team field with an 876 and won by 19 strokes. Queens University of Charlotte finished in second place with an 895. Alex Carpenter of ACU earned medalist honors in the 64-man field with a 3-under par 210. He carded a tournament best round of 65 in the first round and was the only player to break par.

Justin Wingo (Fairfax, Va., George Mason U.) shot the best round of the day for the Saints, a 73, which allowed him to finish in 12th place with 12-over 225. Chris Bray (Hilliard, Fla., Hilliard HS) shot a 77 today to finish in a tie for 17th place with a 14-over 227. Alex Bennett (Rochester, Mich., Scottsdale CC) carded a 74 today and finished with a 20-over 233 and tied for 34th place. Greg Mergel (Allenwood, N.J., Wall Township HS) tallied an 82 this morning and finished with a 29-over 242, good for a tie for 47th place. Travis Ralph (St. Petersburg, Fla., St. Petersburg College) rounded out the Flagler players with an 85 and finished in a tie for 52nd place with a 30-over 243.

Flagler wraps up the fall season and will get ready to open the spring season, and defend its title, Feb. 7-8 at the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate in Panama City, Fla.
