ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -The Flagler men's soccer team defeated Clayton State University 4-1 Saturday night in a Peach Belt Conference matchup at Saints Field. The Saints notched two goals in each half to defeat the Lakers.

Mack Hough (St. Augusine, Fla./ Pedro Menendez HS) started the scoring in the first minute when he headed in a Conor Killeen pass.

Flagler (4-3-1, 3-0-0 PBC) scored again just a minute later when Pol Berenguer (Barcelona, Spain./ Pedro Menendez HS) sailed a shot into the left corner. The ball squeezed by Lakers' goalkeeper David Christofoli.

Late in the first half, Leighton Fredericks, Clayton State's (4-4-0, 0-1-0) leading goal-scorer, drilled a liner into the left corner past Saints' goalkeeper Matt Gilman (Ocala, Fla./ Jacksonville University). Gilman would collect seven saves on the night.

It would be the Lakers' final goal, however, even though they out-shot Flagler 11-9.

In the second half, Berenguer would find the net again. During the 50th minute, Joseph Toby (Jacksonville, Fla/ Wolfson HS)assisted Berenguer to push the Saints lead to 3-1.

The Saints' final score came in the 62nd minute when Toby sent in a pass to Mack Hough who sailed it past Christofoli.

The Saints' 4-1 win keeps them in sole possession of first place in the Peach Belt.

Flagler's next game comes on Sept. 30th against former rival Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
