The Flagler College men's soccer team defeated the University of Montevallo 2-1 Saturday evening. It was both team's conference opener within the Peach Belt Conference.
Flagler started the scoring in the 32nd minute when defender
Ryan Endrizzi (Apopka, Fla./ Bishop Moore HS) sailed a pass to
Mack Hough (St. Augustine, Fla./ Pedro Menendez HS). Hough did the rest as he sent a header past Falcons' goalkeeper Robert Mueller.
Montevallo came back though in the 37th minute when Milan Pualic scored on a penalty kick. Pualic was tackled hard by Saints' defender
Cameron Will (Winter Springs, Fla./ Winter Springs HS) in the penalty box.
Play was very physical in the second half. A total of six yellow cards were issued by the officials.
The Saints retook the lead for good though in the 73rd minute. In a crowd of Falcons defenders,
Joseph Toby (Jacksonville, Fla./ Wolfson HS) assisted
Steven Carothers (Apopka, Fla./ Bishop Moore HS) for the game-winning goal.
Montevallo had a chance to tie in the 88th minute, but a header Petar Trivia was saved by Saints' goalkeeper
Matt Gilman (Ocala, Fla./ Jacksonville University).
Gilman finished the night with eight saves.
The win moves Flagler's record to 1-2-1, while Montevallo drops to 3-2-0.
