AMERICUS, Ga. − The Flagler College softball team continues its impressive run in its inaugural season. The Saints opened with a 7-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern State University and then finished the afternoon with an 8-0 5-inning win over Brewton-Parker College of Mount Vernon, Ga., at the GSW Invitational at the Lady 'Canes Field Friday. Flagler raised its record to 4-0 while GSW fell to 1-1.
In the opener,
Sam Boatner (Auburndale, Fla./Polk CC) (2-0) tossed four innings and allowed one hit and struck out three before giving way to
Kristen Chapman (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood HS) who earned the save after closing the last three frames.
Brittany Simmons (Ocala, Fla./Chattanooga State Tech CC) led the Flagler offense going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
Heather Hill (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Indian River CC) singled and drove in a pair of runs while
Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) singled and scored two runs.
In the second game,
Jana Owen (St. Augustine, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) (1-0) tossed five scoreless innings and allowed just two hits and fanned seven in a game shortened by the mercy rule.
Brittney Hatem (Hialeah, Fla./Wallace CC-Dothan) collected a pair of hits, scored three runs and drove in three more. Hill added a pair of singles, scored a run and drove in another while
Kaycee Lisa (Seminole, Fla./Seminole HS) singled twice and score a run.
Lauren Jurco (Palm Harbor, Fla./Pasco-Hernando CC) singled and scored two runs.
Flagler will play three game tomorrow (Feb. 7) starting at 9 a.m. against Armstrong Atlantic State, then a noon game against Anderson University and finish by taking on Wesleyan (Ga.) at 4:30 p.m.
