ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − The Flagler College softball team split a doubleheader against Armstrong Atlantic State University of Savannah, Ga., Saturday night at Saints Field to wrap up the inaugural Saints Softball Tournament. Armstrong Atlantic won the opener 4-3 in eight innings while Flagler took the second game 7-3. Flagler is now 12-11 on the season while AASU fell to 11-7.
In the opener, Casey Saunders singled in Erin Billingsley in the top of the eighth to give the Pirates the 4-3 lead. Billingsley started the inning on second base as per the international tiebreaker rules. She moved to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Flagler had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the eighth but couldn't push the tying run across.
The Pirates held a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Saints scored three unearned runs aided by a throwing error by the Pirate third baseman on a sacrifice bunt.
Heather Hill (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Indian River CC) hit a two-run double to left to tie the game.
Courtney Alvarez (3-2) picked up the win in relief for AASU. She pitched three scoreless and hitless innings, allowing just two walks and fanning three.
Bailie Temples collected three singles and scored a run for the Pirates. Sam Floyd singled twice and scored a run while Saunders had two hits and two RBI.
Kristen Chapman (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood HS) (3-6) tossed 3 2/3 innings in relief and took the loss. She allowed four hits and one unearned run.
Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) and
Kaitlyn Collier (Wellington, Fla./Palm Beach Central HS) each singled twice.

In game two, Flagler used a five-run sixth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit en route to a 7-3 win.
Kirsten Immel (Ocala, Fla./Vanguard HS) and Ely led off the inning with back-to-back singles. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners up a base and an intentional walk was issued to load the bases,
Sam Boatner (Auburndale, Fla./Polk CC) hit a sharp grounder that went through the legs of Armstrong Atlantic's shortstop and into the outfield plating two runs. Another intentional walk loaded the bases and
Chelsea Welch (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia HS) doubled down the left field line scoring two more runs and Flagler led 6-3.
Brittany Simmons (Ocala, Fla./Chattanooga State Tech CC) followed with a double to right field to cap off the scoring.
Boatner (6-3) came on to pitch the last two innings and allowed just two hits.
Jana Owen (St. Augustine, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) started and went five innings, allowed five hits and two earned runs.
Hill went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and another driven in. Welch tallied three RBI.
Britton Hammel-Cobb (0-2) pitched the last 2 2/3 innings to pick up the loss. She allowed five hits and four earned runs.
Seven different players had hits for the Pirates.
Flagler hosts 17th-ranked Georgian Court University tomorrow (Mar. 1) at 2 p.m. at Saints Field.
