Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − The Flagler College Saints and the Barry University Buccaneers split a non-conference doubleheader Saturday at Flagler Stadium. Barry took the opener 10-4 while Flagler won the nightcap 4-3 to avoid the series sweep. Barry is now 8-2 while Flagler sits at 4-8.

In the opener, Yas Gutierrez belted a solo home run in the top of the sixth off Flagler reliever Tyler McKendree (Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) to give the Bucs a 5-2 lead. Barry added four more in the top of the seventh to cruise to a 10-4 win.

Danny Lima went 2-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI. Yan Gomes ripped a three-run home run in the seventh while Manny Pedrozo doubled, tripled and scored a run.

Charley Short (3-0) remained undefeated in the young season after hurling five innings, allowing six hits and one earned run. He struck out four.

Cale Owen (Clearwater, Fla./home schooled) continues his torrid hit streak with a 4-for-5 performance and two runs scored. John Goryl (Apopka, Fla./Daytona Beach CC) (0-1) tossed five innings and allowed three hits and two earned runs.

In the nightcap, Barry left 14 men on base and allowed a pair of unearned runs and Flagler came away with a 4-3 win.

Kyle Foti (Stamford, Conn./Trinity Catholic) blasted his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth to break up a 3-3 tie and lift the Saints to the win.

The Bucs made it interesting in the top of the seventh by loading the bases with two out but Jonny Gaines (Jacksonville, Fla./Hillsborough CC) came on to fan the final batter and earn his first save.

Jonathan Armold (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Pine Crest School) (2-0) tossed five innings and scattered five hits and three runs. He walked seven and struck out seven.

Zach Bove (Winter Haven, Fla./Central Florida CC) and Kirby Johnson (Orange Park, Fla./Ridgeview HS) each singled. Johnson's knocked in a run.

Lima went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Barry. T.J. Mullins (0-1) took the loss after surrendering the home run to Foti in the fifth.

Flagler travels to former rival Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Tuesday (Feb. 25) at 6 p.m. in Daytona Beach.
