Pol Berenguer (Barcelona, Spain/St. Augustine HS) booted home a pass from
Mack Hough (St. Augustine, Fla./Pedro Menendez HS) in the 62nd minute to lift Flagler College to a 2-1 victory over North Georgia College & State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at the NGCSU Soccer Complex. Head coach
John Lynch picked up his 100th career victory at Flagler, in his 11th season.
Flagler won its second consecutive match and improved to 10-5-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the Peach Belt. North Georgia lost its fourth consecutive match and fell to 5-9-0 overall and 1-6-0 in league play.
Conor Killeen (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste Ide) scored the first goal of the match with just 41 seconds left to go in the first half. He took a pass from
Greg Taafe (Dorset, England/Lenoir-Rhyne U.) and put the ball in the back of the goal.
North Georgia cut the lead in half in the 72nd minute when Jeff Majors took a pass from Ben Tayi, weaved past a Flagler defender and scored.
NGCSU had two more shots on goal, but would not score again.
Matt Gilman (Ocala, Fla./Jacksonville U.) tallied five saves, including two in the last 17 minutes to preserve the win for Flagler. Rade Tanaskovic also recorded five saves for North Georgia.
North Georgia held a slight 13-11 advantage in shots and a 4-2 spread in corner kicks. There were 30 fouls whistled with North Georgia being caught 16 times. Seven cards were issued, including one red per side.
Flagler continues on the road with a Peach Belt Conference match at Georgia Southwestern on Oct. 28 at 3:30 p.m.
