ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Preston Picard (Detroit, Mich./Madonna University) drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning and Randy Miller (Jacksonville, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) scored the winning run in Flagler College's 5-4 win over Georgia Southwestern University in a non-conference baseball game Friday night at Flagler Stadium.

Hurricane reliever Matt Hyer opened the ninth inning with Georgia Southwestern (12-14) ahead 4-3. He got Shane Darnofall (Corry, Pa./Hillsborough CC) to ground out to third, but Zach Rossetti (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter HS) ripped a single to left to get Flagler (16-9) started. Chris Guerra (Fremont, Calif./Mount Mercy College) popped to second for the second out of the inning, but Miller followed with a single to left, putting pinch runner Reno DiCarlantonio (Wellington, Fla./Cardinal Newman HS) in scoring position with the tying run. Glenn Kiture (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater HS) singled to right to load the bases. Cody Heller came into relieve Hyer for the Hurricanes, but he would walk both Kenny Bargfeldt (Fishers, Ind./Ball State U.) to tie the game and then Picard, on a full count, to push the winning run across.

Paul Mathews (Baton Rouge, La./Saint Louis CC-Meramec) (5-0) earned the win in relief, tossing two-thirds of an inning, surrendering a hit and striking out one batter. He came in relief of Wes Burgess (St. Augustine, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) who tossed 8.1 innings, allowed four hits and only one earned run. His 18-inning scoreless streak was snapped in the first inning after Jake Mobley, who doubled down the left field line, scored on a single by Jordan Mullis. That was Burgess' only earned run of the evening.

Kiture went 3-for-4 with a run batted in for the Saints. Rossetti also collected three singles and scored two runs. Picard singles and drove in three runs. Miller keeps his hitting streak alive, extending it to seven games. He went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and another driven in.

Hyer took the loss in relief for the Hurricanes. He pitched just two-thirds of an inning, allowed three hits and two earned runs. Jason Starr tossed seven strong innings and gave up nine hits. He allowed three runs but struck out nine hitters.

Mobley singled and doubled for Georgia Southwestern. He scored two runs and drove in another.

The same two teams meet tomorrow (Mar. 11) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Flagler Stadium.
