ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Paul Pesca and Paul Irby both collected two-run singles in a five-run second inning to lead Limestone College to a 13-5 win over Flagler College in a non-conference baseball game at Flagler Stadium Sunday afternoon.
David Wise led off the inning by reaching on a throwing error by Flagler shortstop Randy Miller (Jacksonville, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville). Joey Asis followed with a single to left-center allowing courtesy runner Dylan Anthony to advance all the way to third. Asis swiped second and Pesca drove both of them home with his single down the leftfield line. Tyler Midgett singled through the left side and Pesca moved to second. Rob Bouknight sacrificed the runners up a base with a bunt back to Flagler pitcher Tim DeSutter (Loxahatchee, Fla./Brevard CC). Irby then drove home both runs with his single to left center putting Limestone up 4-0.
Flagler would pull to within three runs, 8-5 in the bottom of the eighth, when Shane Darnofall (Corry, Pa./Hillsborough CC) drew a bases loaded walk.
Limestone would tack on five more runs in the top of the ninth.
Asis led Limestone (1-2) with a 4-for-5 with two triple, a double and a single and scored four runs and drove in two more. Pesca went 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI.
Jamie Langford (1-0) tossed 5.2 innings scattering four hits and allowing two runs while fanning four. Kyle Elliott pitched 1.1 innings in relief to earn the save.
Preston Picard (Detroit, Mich./Madonna University) doubled and singled and drove in run for Flagler (4-2). DeSutter (1-1) went 1.1 innings, allowing five hits and four earned runs.
Flagler College hosts Southeastern University on Tuesday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Flagler Stadium.
