Miller and Saints sink Pilots, 6-2

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Randy Miller Jacksonville, Fla./Florida CC-Jacksonville) continued on his torrid hitting pace by going 2-for-4 with a double and four runs batted in to lead Flagler College to a 6-2 win over Bethel College of Mishawaka, Ind., Tuesday night at Flagler Stadium. Flagler raises its record to 11-9 while Bethel falls to 0-5. Miller is batting .500 (7-for-14) in his last four games and has a .643 slugging percentage.

Already up 1-0 in the bottom of the second with runners at second and third and two outs, Miller roped a double to left-center plating Bryan Harrell (Granger, Ind./Lincoln Trail College) and Reno DiCarlantonio (Wellington, Fla./Cardinal Newman HS) to give the Saints a 3-0 lead.

Miller came through again in the fourth, with runners at second and third and two outs. He ripped a single to center scoring courtesy runner Chris Guerra (Fremont, Calif./Mount Mercy College) and Mike Scott (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School). Miller was thrown out trying to take second on the throw home which was cut off.

That was all starter Brad Jackson (Havana, Fla./North Florida CC) (1-1). He tossed six complete innings in earning his first victory of the season. Jackson scattered seven hits and allowed two earned runs.

Jason Jones (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton HS) went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Jorge Marquez (Caracas, Venezuela/North Iowa Area CC) collected a pair of singles for the Saints.

Matt Zappasodi collected three singles and drove in a run for Bethel. Nelson Sanchez went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Chad Emberton (0-2) tossed six innings and allowed seven hits and five earned runs in taking the loss on the hill.

Flagler College returns to Florida Sun Conference action on Saturday with a noon doubleheader at Florida Memorial University. Bethel College heads to Babson Park for a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Webber International University tomorrow.
