Sara Sandberg of the women's soccer team was named as the Athlete of the Month, sponsored by Sleep Inn, for the month of September.
Sandberg was selected as the player of the week twice in September.
For the period ending Sept. 2, Sandberg scored a goal and tallied an assist in No. 21 Flagler College's season-opening 3-1 victory at Florida Southern College. She scored the first goal of the match 15 seconds in, the fastest first goal in the history of the program. Then, she assisted in what would prove to be the game-winning goal just four seconds before the end of the first half. It was her indirect free kick from just outside the right corner of the goal box to a charging Myiah Russack-Cradeur, who scored the goal, to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.
For the period ending Sept. 16, Sandberg scored all four Flagler goals during the week as the Saints went 2-0. She scored in the fifth minute at Florida Tech and then scored the golden goal in the 94th minute. At Young Harris, she scored a pair of second goals, seven minutes apart from each other, to lead Flagler to a 2-0 win.
