Tinsley Smith of the softball team was selected as the Sizzlin' Saint award recipient, sponsored by Applebee's, for the month of February.
“Tinsley is a four-year senior who has really stepped up in a new role for our pitching staff as a closer," said head softball coach, Kristen Overton. "This is the first time since 2012 that we have had someone in that role. Even in 2015 we only had seven saves as a team, with one player having five. In the month of February alone, Tinsley had six saves. When we put Tinsley in late in the game when we are winning, I truly feel that there’s no doubt that we will finish that game with a win. Tinsley demonstrated the athletic departments core convents in all aspects. Teamwork was critical for her accepting the closing role. She is willing to hold herself accountable for her mistakes on the mound.”
