Crystal Niederriter of the women's volleyball team was selected as the first Diamond in the Rough, sponsored by Nettles Fine Jewelry, for the month of September.

Niederriter hit a team-best .408 during September and led the team in kills with 176 and was second in total blocks with 46. As a middle blocker, she often gets overlooked by the powerful outside hitters, but her efficiency thus far is unparalleled. Niederriter recorded a season-high 24 kills vs. Newberry on Sept. 9 at the USC Aiken Invitational. She hit a remarkable .568 in the match. At Lees-McRae, Niederriter recorded a .636 hitting percentage.

She is currently second in the Peach Belt Conference in hitting with a .384 percentage and fourth in kills per set (3.01).
