Brant Switzler of the men's tennis team was selected as the Diamond in the Rough for the month of April, sponsored by Nettles Fine Jewelry.
"Brant is a walk-on and has done very well so far," said Thomas Hipp, Flagler's director of tennis. "He has a great attitude and a winner mentality, which is why he is able to win matches despite having limited skills as of now (the skills are improving because of his focus and determination in every single practice). Brant has won matches against opponents that had more polished skills just because of his winning attitude. I started him out at No. 6, but he progressively has moved up in the line-up to No. 4!, Aside from his performance on the court, he has a great personality. Brant pushes his teammates in practice by being an example and having great energy, thus making all of them better. In addition, his support for his teammates during the matches is unparalleled. Brant has helped his teammates when they struggled on the court with his positive energy so they were able to raise their game. Jose Martinez, for example, would have lost his match vs. Georgia College without Brant's support. He has ways to get his teammates going! In conclusion, I am really happy to have recruited him as he sets an example for everyone. Brant is always ready to play (physically and even more so mentally). I even had him speak in front of the team so he could express his way of getting ready and the rest could learn from him."
