Elijah Hayes of the men's basketball team was selected as the Diamond in the Rough for the month of December, sponsored by Nettles Fine Jewelry.

"Elijah is an unsung, non-scholarship player, who really plays hard and has an incredible work ethic," said head men's basketball coach Bo Clark. "He comes off the bench with a contagious enthusiasm and is a great kid.  He is a freshman (eligibility) who was a practice player last year."

Hayes has played in 13 games this season and has started three. He is averaging 2.8 points and 2.4 assists per game. Hayes scored a season-high seven points vs. UNC Pembroke (Dec. 17).
