Okenla Nets Game-Winner as Saints Defeat Lander on Saturday Afternoon

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Flagler College men's soccer team (4-1-4 overall, 4-0-1 PBC) put together a dominant showing on Saturday afternoon to take down Lander (3-3-2 overall, 2-1-1 PBC) by a final score of 1-0. Flagler controlled the tempo all afternoon as the Saints outshot the Bearcats 15-4 and held the visitors to just one shot on goal.

TURNING POINT
After 43 minutes of scoreless action, Flagler broke through first just before halftime. Saints' defender Filip Hornburg sent a deep clear out of the box and all the way into the Saints attacking zone. The high clear bounced just into the box and the Bearcats goalkeeper misplayed it. Junior forward Henry Okenla, in full stride, stole the misplayed ball from the Bearcats keeper and slid it into goal to give Flagler a 1-0 lead just before the halftime break. The miscue proved to be the difference as the Saints backline didn't allow the Bearcats any attacking opportunities as they held on to a 1-0 victory.

KEY STATS & NOTES

Henry Okenla found the back of the net for the first time this season, and sixth time in his career.
Finn Weigelt turned in a game-high four shots across 59 minutes of work.
Sophomore defender Filip Hornburg added three shots, including one on goal.
John McGarry logged two shots over 42 minutes off the bench.
Daniel Becerra, Hugues Iguaran, Maddock Griffith, and Dani Freire rounded out the Saints offense with a shot.
Xander LaBelle got his third start in net and earned his first clean sheet. The junior smothered the only shot he faced at goal.
Daniel Becerra, Ryan Berger, and Filip Hornburg played all 90 minutes on the backline to lead the Saints to their second clean sheet of the season.
With the victory, the Saints picked up three more points to remain in first place.
