Saints ranked No. 1 in the nation

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - In the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association(ITA) national poll of the 2025-26 season, Flagler College came in ranked No. 1, per organization officials released this afternoon.

After winning Flagler College's first Division II title, the Saints finished as No. 1 for the first time in program history. Flagler was also ranked No. 1 in the Southeast region. Singles had five Saints ranked in the top-75 and one pair ranked in doubles.

The Saints path to the No. 1 ranking saw them going 6-0. In the process, the Saints defeated the No. 1, 2, 3, 12, 26 and 27 ranked teams. During the Peach Belt Conference Championship, Flagler defeated No. 3 Columbus State University. This is the first time since Feb. 16 of 2025 where Flagler defeated the No. 3 in DII. Against No.1 Barry University and No. 2 University of West Florida in the semifinal and championship round of the NCAA Division II Tournament, this is the first time in program history the Saints defeated the Argonauts and the Buccaneers. Through their final six matches, Flagler won their matches by an average score of 4-1 as the Saints defeated three opponents 4-0. This is the first time in program history Flagler finished as the No. 1 team in the nation. The past three seasons saw Flagler finish within the top-5 and is the fifth consecutive season Flagler finished in the top-10.

The highest ranked Saint was Simon Malis who finished his season ranked at No. 13 and No. 4 in the Southeast region. Since the last ranking was released, Malis played at court one through six matches. Three of his matches went unfinished with those being against ranked players. In matches finished, Malis won the remaining three matches, upsetting the nation's No. 1 and No. 16 ranked players in the process. Against University of West Florida's Sebastian Rondon, Malis upset the No. 1 player 6-1 and 6-4. In the championship match of the NCAA Tournament, Malis defeated No. 16 Riccardo Trione 6-7(2-7), 6-1 and 6-3.

Since the previous ranking release on Apr. 29, now No. 14 Aniss Rafiq went undefeated on court two in his six matches. Claiming four top 40 wins, Rafiq's biggest upsets were against DII's No. 2 and No. 3 ranked players. Against West Florida's Diego Duran, Rafiq defeated the No. 3 player 3-6, 6-2 and 6-3. Versus No. 2 Yan Kodjoed of Barry University, Rafiq defeated the No. 2 player 6-2 and 6-1. Rafiq is ranked No. 5 in the region.

Ilian Borlee was the last to crack the top 20 as he landed at No. 20. The Belgium senior went 3-1 with his two other matches going unfinished. In each of his three wins, Borlee never allowed his opponent to score more than three points in both sets combined. Borlee won two matches 6-3 and 6-0 and one match 6-0 and 6-3. Borlee is ranked No. 6 in the region.

Aly El Rafie climbed his way to No. 46. In his final four matches, El Rafie played at court four where he won three and had one go unfinished. Against No. 31 Andres De Los Rios of Lubbock Christian University, El Rafie pulled off the upset 6-1 and 7-5. In the biggest match of the junior's career, El Rafie defeated Thomas Machado of Barry, 6-2, 1-6 and 7-6(7-3) to win the Saints their national title.

True freshman Raphael Rousson finished ranked at No. 61. Rousson only saw action in three matches, going 1-1-1. His lone win came against Anton Krondell of Lander University where he won 6-1 and 6-1. Rousson is ranked No. 19 in the region.

In doubles, Malis and Borlee skyrocketed to No. 4 in the nation. To jump 26 spots was a result of the duo going 5-1 on court one. In five of their matches, the duo faced a top 25 ranked duo team. Their highest ranked upset came against No. 8 Mattia Ghedin and Kelly Giese of Lubbock Christian, 6-3. Against No. 16 Harry Pugh and Brendan Jayaprakash of Lander University, Borlee and Malis had their best win, 6-1. The duo's only loss on the entire season came at the hands of No. 1 Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon 6-7(4-7). Borlee and Malis finished with a record of 13-1 and two matches unfinished.
