ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - No. 4 (ITA Division II Top 50) Flagler College was selected as the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Division II National Tournament's Round of 16 yesterday afternoon.
The tournament will begin on May 20 in Surprise, Arizona. Flagler's first match will begin at 3 p.m. against No. 27 and No. 11 seeded Queens College (N.Y.). The winner advances to take on the winner of the No. 3 Lubbock Christian University-No. 14 Harding University match.
This will be the fifth meeting between the two institutes. Flagler holds the edge over Queens, 3-1. The last time they met was during the spring of the 2011-12 season where Queens emerged victorious, 5-4.
The Knights made it to the tournament after putting together a 22-2 season. Through the season, the Knights defeated two ranked Division II opponents while also putting together a 5-1 record against Division I programs.
Queens won its only match in the NCAA Division II East Region No. 1 as they defeated Assumption University, 4-0. The Knights won their fourth straight East Coast Conference title after defeating St. Thomas Aquinas College 4-1 in the championship match on April 25.
