Flagler men ranked No. 4 in the nation and No. 3 in the region

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Flagler College men's tennis team is ranked No. 4 according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division II Coaches Poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon. More importantly, the Saints are ranked No. 3 in the last of the three NCAA Division II regional rankings. The national tournament field will be unveiled Monday at 8:30 p.m. on ncaa.com.

Flagler is currently 18-4 overall and 5-1 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Saints advanced to the PBC Tournament final last Sunday.

Catawba College, the South Atlantic Conference champion, tops the region ranking with an 18-1 overall record and a 17-0 mark against in-region competition. Columbus State University (18-2, 17-2), the PBC champion, follows at No. 2. The University of North Georgia (13-8, 13-6) and Wingate University (14-7, 14-7) follow Flagler at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Lander University (12-6, 12-6) is No. 6 while Belmont Abbey College (15-7, 15-7), the Conference Carolinas champion, is No. 7. The University of Mount Olive (14-5, 14-5) checks in at No. 8. Rounding out the top 10 are Converse University (14-7, 14-6) and Lincoln Memorial University (14-10, 12-10).  

Flagler holds a .645 in-division strength of schedule, which is the toughest in the region. The in-region strength of schedule for the Saints is .605, which leads the way too.

There are five PBC teams, including Flagler, that are ranked in the top 50. Columbus State moved up one to No. 3 and the University of North Georgia held at No. 15. Lander University stayed the same at No. 26 and Augusta University dropped two spots to No. 47.    

The University of West Florida tops the ranking while Barry University follows in second. Saint Leo University rounds out the top five.

Ilian Borlee holds at No. 14 in singles. He has a 25-4 record this year and is 16-2 in the spring. Simon Malis moved up to No. 17 with a 24-7 overall mark and is 16-4 this semester. Aniss Rafiq checks in at No. 35 with a 9-9 record. Raphael Rousson is ranked No. 54 again and holds a 20-5 overall record this season and is 15-2 in the spring.  Aly El Rafie is No. 73 and holds a 17-8 overall record and is 14-2 this spring. In doubles, Malis and Borlee are ranked No. 30 as they are 8-0.
