Saints take their fourth consecutive conference title

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Top-seeded Flagler College women's lacrosse team claimed their fourth consecutive Gulf South Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship after defeating second-seeded University of Alabama in Huntsville 17-11 on this afternoon at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex.

With the win, Flagler earned the GSC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Regional Championship. The NCAA Selection Show is May 3 at 8:30 p.m. Flagler is now one of three NCAA Division II teams to remain undefeated on the season, sitting at 19-0. Filling the All-Tournament team, Jessica Wright, Dakota Capolino, Charlotte Harrington, Carley Tepel and Ella Pinder were all named. Tepel also earned Most Outstanding Player.

Rattling off two unanswered goals to start the game, the Chargers were quickly caught up with after two three goal runs in the first and second period. Staying within a two possession game, the Saints erupted for a five goal run led by Mia Cosentino to push the Saints within winning distance.` As a team, the Saints won a staggering 21 draw controls compared to the Chargers eight. Pinder led the Saints, winning seven, followed by Cosentino with four. Defensively, five Saints caused one of the Chargers six turnovers. Wright, Jenn Seebach, Harrington and Cosentino each found two ground balls.

The tournament's most outstanding player had a career game as she scored an impressive nine points. Tepel finished with six goals and three assists. Wright put up seven points as she had a career high five assists and to goals. Ava Lambros' three late time goals put at five total and one assist. Cosentino tallied a hat trick and one assist while Kylie Budke wrapped up the remaining scorers with one goal and two assists.
