INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Flagler College baseball team is one of 10 teams listed in the first of three NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, which was released Wednesday afternoon.
The first poll is listed alphabetically, but the next two will be ranked Nos. 1-10.
Flagler (30-14 overall, 26-14 in-region record) is one of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the top 10. The University of North Georgia (35-11, 35-11) and USC Aiken (33-13, 33-13) are listed in the initial rankings.
Other teams listed are Belmont Abbey College (33-11, 33-11), Catawba College (35-8, 35-8), Francis Marion University (37-9, 37-9), Lenoir-Rhyne University (32-10-1, 32-10-1), North Greenville University (40-7, 39-7), Wingate University (32-14, 31-14), and Young Harris College (33-13, 33-13).
The Saints division strength of schedule is .526, is 16
th in the region. Flagler's region RPI is .559, which is 11
th in the region. The national tournament selection criteria are based on, in no particular order: in-region winning percentage, D2 winning percentage, D2 strength of schedule, D2 head-to-head competition, and results vs. common D2 opposition.
The NCAA regional rankings are the official rankings used by the committee to select the national tournament field. The field will be comprised of 56 teams, and the Southeast Region will have eight teams playing at the top two seeds. However, two more polls are to be announced until the tentative release of the field on Sunday, May 10 at 10 p.m. Eastern.
