No. 15 Saints bounce back against the Bearcats

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The No. 15 Flagler College women's tennis team defeated Peach Belt Conference opponent, Lander University this afternoon, 6-1, at the Pollard Tennis Center.

Bouncing back with a crucial conference win, Flagler advanced to a 4-1 and 11-8 record while Lander dropped to 8-7 and 1-4. With a quick turnaround, Flagler will face No. 3 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Daytona.

The Saints and Bearcats exchanged doubles wins with Eryka Kruk and Lea Jakic starting off. The senior led duo swept Ella Sowman Sydney Caulder 6-0. This is Kruk and Jakic's third consecutive doubles win. The deciding victory came from Sofia Balsera and Leah Waechter over Bailee Martin and Thilda Danielsson, 6-2. Balsera and Waechter have won five of their last six doubles matches.

Doubles was kicked off by the Saints highest ranked player, Elena Ondobo. No. 12 Ondobo took set one, 6-2, over Evelyn Altmaier before sweeping her 6-0 to give herself the win. Balsera followed close behind, defeating Danielsson 6-1 and 6-2. To clinch the match, Ornella Lomenzo took her match 6-4 and 6-1 over Micaela Pallete. Lomenzo earned her eight win in ten matches. At the helm, No. 16 Kruk took her match against Maria Jose Zarza in two 6-3 sets. The last win of the day started with a 6-0 sweep from Jakic over Sowman and finished with a 6-4 second set.
