Saints Sweep the Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - After a week hiatus, the No. 15 Flagler College women's tennis team swept Georgia College & State University, 7-0 this morning at the Centennial Center Tennis Courts.

With this win, the Saints remain undefeated in conference play as they progress to 3-0 and 10-7 overall. The Bobcats fall to 1-3 in conference and 8-9 overall. The Saints will remain on the road and face No. 14 Columbus State University on Sunday, Apr. 12 at 11 am.

Nearly perfect in doubles, the Saints found their first point from courts two and three. Lea Jakic and Eryka Kruk gained the first win of the day after defeating Laura Almagro and Natalie Kirka 6-2. Leah Waechter and Sofia Balsera took the doubles point after a tight 7-6(7-5) match over Alisa Chiang and Lucy Kim.

The Saints earned two points right away from Elena Ondobo and Ornella Lomenzo. First to finish, Lomenzo handled Chiang in a 6-2 and 6-1 finish. No. 12 Ondobo defeated Victoria C. Vendrell 6-2 and 6-0 to put the Saints up 3-0. To clinch the match, No. 16 Eryka Kruk defeated Rachel Black 6-3 and 6-1.

After the clinch, the remaining Saints squeezed out their close matches. Jakic extended her three match win streak as she defeated Kim 6-4 and 6-2. Playing a tie break twice, Marie Fairier earned a hard win over Kirka 7-6(7-5) and 7-6(7-3). Balsera stayed undefeated on the day as she defeated Almagro 6-3, 4-6 and 1-0(10-5).
