ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jesse Sullivan's two-run single in the eighth inning was the game-winning hit in Flagler College's 3-1 victory over Middle Georgia State University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 20-11 overall and 8-8 in the Peach Belt. Middle Georgia dropped to 12-20 overall and 5-11 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m.
With the score tied at 1-all in the bottom of the eighth, Flagler loaded the bases quickly as
Taylor Shultz was hit by a pitch,
AJ Hunerberg drew a walk, and
George Gilson hit a bunt single to third base. That chased Middle Georgia reliever Brandon Exley (0-3) from the game. In came Kody Collins who got
Eli Maddox to line into a double play, but Sullivan hit his second pitch back up the middle to score both runners.
Parker Adams came in to pitch for the Saints in the ninth inning and got the first two outs. He walked the next batter and allowed a hit to put runners on the corners but struck out the last batter looking to end the game and pocket his third save of the season.
CJ Hanson (4-2) tossed eight innings and allowed one run on five hits. He tossed 131 pitches.
Hunerberg hit a double and scored two runs for Flagler.
Exley tossed one inning and allowed two runs on two hits. Ethan Gill started and allowed one unearned run on two hits in six innings.
Teonis Pimental went 2-for-2 with a double. Seve Fernandez finished with two singles.
