ST. AUGUSTINE –
Payton Palladino drew a bases load walk in the 10
th inning in Flagler College's 12-11 win over Florida Tech in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 19-11 overall while Florida Tech fell to 14-13. The Saints are 5-1 in one-run games while the Panthers are 1-7. Flagler returns to conference play this weekend when it hosts Middle Georgia State University, starting the three-game set Friday at 5 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
Former Flagler pitcher
Jake Hill (0-1) came in to pitch in the bottom of the 10
th inning against some of his former teammates. He allowed a lead-off single to
AJ Hunerberg and then walked
Jesse Sullivan. After a sacrifice bunt by
Tripp Davis moved the runners up a base,
Holden Bradshaw was intentionally walked. Palladino saw five pitches, four of them balls, to score the winning run.
The Saints built up a 9-1 lead thanks to a four-run sixth inning.
George Gilson hit a two-run home run over the batter's eye in center field. He finished the game 3-for-6 and was a triple shy of the cycle. Gilson scored three runs and had two runs batted in.
But the Panthers struck for nine runs, only one was earned, in the top of the seventh to take an improbable 10-9 lead.
Palladino went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
Patrick Mazzamaro hit two doubles and scored two runs.
Taylor Shultz, Hunerberg, and Davis all had two singles apiece.
Aaron Zenus (2-1) earned the win in relief. He tossed two scoreless innings and struck out three batters. Zenus was the last of eight pitchers used by Flagler.
Adrian Dominguez went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and one RBI for the Panthers. Justis Meadows collected three singles, scored a run, and drove in two more.
Hill last one-third of an inning, allowed one run on one hit and walked three. He was the last of seven pitchers used by Florida Tech.
