ST. AUGUSTINE –
Kiley McQuillan's two-run homer in the third helped Flagler College defeat Augusta University 3-1 in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Sunday afternoon at Flagler Field.
Flagler improved to 9-19 overall and 5-4 in the Peach Belt. Augusta left 13-14 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The Saints will take on Eckerd College in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
The Saints took the lead in the second inning with a bases-loaded walk drawn by
Olivia Burns to bring in McQuillan to lead 1-0.
The Jaguars pushed across one run in the third from a groundout by Chesney Miles.
At the bottom of the third,
Annake Meadows drew a walk with two outs. McQuillan smashed the go-ahead homer over the left field wall to put the Saints up 3-1.
Ava Matthews (3-4) allowed one earned run while scattering four hits in 5.0 innings to get the win. She produced 10 fly-outs and four groundouts.
Riley Rowe finished the game to record her first save.
McQuillan finished 3-for-3 with two singles and a two-run homer. Burns went 1-for-2 with a single, with two walks and one RBI.
Kristyn Ezzo (2-4) took the loss for the Jaguars. She allowed three runs on three hits in 2.2 innings.
Sam Tener went 2-for-4 with two singles. Ezzo went 1-for-3 for the Jaguars' lone run.
