PETERSBURG, Va. - The top ranked Flagler College women's lacrosse team took their conference opener, 25-3, against Virginia State University this afternoon at Rogers Stadium.
Flagler continues it's reign with a 12-0 record while the Trojans fall to 2-6. The Saints will host their annual "Senior Day" match against Lander University on Saturday, Mar. 28 at noon.
The Saints erupted with a 11 goal run in the first quarter to set the tone for the game. During the run,
Carley Tepel led the offense with three goals and one assist. Tepel was one of three Saints to find a hat trick, along with
Taylor Halloran and
Emily Cutair. At the end of regulation, 17 different Saints scored at least one goal. Transfer
Journee' Martin and freshman
Anna Mallaley scored their first goals as a Saint with Martin finding one and Mallaley scoring two.Â
Flagler's defense was led by a string of six Saints who caused at least one turnover. Halloran and
Maddy Hartsock both finished with two.
Carly Bagnasco led the Saints ground ball game with two. The Saints found success across the board at draw control.
Claudia Tanksley finished with a team high five wins while
Riley Klepper finished with four. Great McGinnis and
Izzy Campos each found three.
As a team, the Saints defense held Virginia State to seven shots while out shooting them with 39. Causing 18 turnovers, the Saints only allowed one free position attempt which was unsuccessful.
