ST. AUGUSTINE - For the first time in program history, the Flagler College women's lacrosse team is ranked No. 1 in this weeks Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association national poll, released this afternoon per organization officials.
Previous No. 1 Florida Southern College dropped down to No. 2 this week, followed by University of Indianapolis at No. 3. Maryville University held their previous ranking at No. 4 while University of Tampa fell to No. 5. Among other Gulf South Conference affiliated institutions, University of Alabama in Huntsville is ranked at No. 23.
Last week the Saints went 2-0, defeating then No. 1 Florida Southern 13-7. Their second win came against Palm Beach Atlantic who they defeated 18-7. A record breaking season continues for the Saints as they advanced to a new program best 6-0.
Across the NCAA Division II, the Saints defense averages 6.16 goals against, which ranks them 13th among all institutions. The Saints are tied for fourth as the highest scoring offense in Division II, averaging 18 goals a game. Through their three ranked games against No. 10 Saint Leo University, No. 24 Florida Institute of Technology and No. 1 Florida Southern, the Saints average 16.3 goals a game and allow nine goals a game.
