No. 5 Saints dethrone the No. 1 Mocs

ST. AUGUSTINE - For the first time in program history, the No. 5 ranked Flagler College women's lacrosse team defeated top ranked Florida Southern College, 13-7 this evening.

Flagler advanced to a record breaking 5-0 start to the season while Florida Southern dropped to 4-1. The Saints will return to the field this Saturday and travel to Palm Beach Atlantic University at 3 p.m.

A slow start to the match put the Saints down 5-2 early in the second period. Halfway through the third period, the Saints clawed their way to a 7-6 lead off a man-up goal from Carley Tepel. A quick tying goal was smothered by a six goal run to seal the game.

Ella Pinder played another all around game as she led the Saints on offense. Pinder finished with a match high five goals off her hat trick. Ava Lambros joined in as well, scoring three. Pinder also led the team in draw controls with two. Outside of Tepel's lead changing goal, the senior finished with three assists.

Stepping in at attack and keeping the ball on that side of the field, Martha Halford tied a team high two caused turnovers and had a match high three ground balls. Maddy Hartsock and Macey Watt also finished with two caused turnovers. While in goal, Dakota Capolino was the first goalie to finish with more saves than goals allowed as well as finished with the most saves of any goalie the Mocs have faced this season, with 11. As a team, the Saints held the Mocs to their lowest scoring game of the season.

Earlier this season the Saints broke their previous record of the highest ranked opponent beaten, after defeating No. 10 Saint Leo University 18-11 and now re-broke that record. This is the first time in their five encounters the Saints were able to top the Mocs.
