ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The No. 1 Flagler College women's lacrosse fended off No. 6 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical 19-12 this afternoon at the Embry-Riddle Lacrosse Field.
The Saints picked up their sixth national ranked win and their fourth in the top 10, moving to 11-0 overall. The Eagles suffered their first loss of the season, dropping to 5-1 overall. The Saints begin conference play as they travel to Virginia State University on Saturday, Mar. 21 at 11 a.m.
Jessica Wright continues to be the face of the Saints offense, putting together her third five-plus point game in her last four games. Finishing with another match high in goals, Wright scored five while also notching two assists. Three other Saints in
Mia Cosentino,
Carley Tepel and
Ava Lambros each registered a hat trick while Tepel added an additional two assists. Five remaining Saints found at least one point. Smothering the Eagles goalie, the Saints offense was only stopped four times.
Defensively, the Saints were led by
Dakota Capolino who made 10 saves. Cosentino,
Carly Bagnasco,
Jenn Seebach and
Gracie Karoly each caused one turnover. Karoly tied for a match high three ground balls and was trailed by Capolino with two.
Ella Pinder led the Saints at draw control, winning five while Bagnasco and
Claudia Tanksley won two.
