ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The No. 38 Flagler College women's tennis team hopped back on track, upsetting No. 17 Lenoir-Rhyne University 5-2 this afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
The Saints snapped their losing streak to gain their first ranked win of the season. With this win Flagler moves up to 3-6 overall while the Bears suffer their first loss of the season, moving to 7-1. The Saints will play back-to-back this weekend as travel to No. 7 Nova Southeastern University to face them on Saturday, Mar. 14 and No. 41 Wayne State University on Friday, Mar. 13.
Playing down a player, the Saints relinquished one of their courts in doubles. The only pair to find a win was
Eryka Kruk and
Sofia Balsera on court one who defeated Claudia Orsini and Enrica Favaron 6-2.
Singles saw the Saints sweep on courts that were played as court six was also relinquished due to the low number of players. No. 15
Elena Ondobo continues to dominate court two as she defeated Orsini 6-3 and 6-3. No. 21
Eryka Kruk tied the match up 2-2 after defeating Runa Muderrisoglu 6-3 and 7-5. To put the Saints in position to capture the win, Balsera defeated Sandra Mahbouli 6-2 and 7-5. Clinching the match was
Marie Fairier who defeated Nellie Wahlberg in three sets. Taking set one 6-1, Fairier dropped set two 3-6 and finished on a 6-4 set three. After the clinch,
Ornella Lomenzo defeated Mehetia Boosie 4-6, 6-2 and 6-3.
