ST. AUGUSTINE - The Flagler College men's tennis team opened their regular season off with a 6-1 victory over Belmont Abbey College this afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
Current No. 3 (ITA) Saints moved up to 1-0 on the season while the Crusaders drop their second in a row, moving to 0-2. The Saints will return home tomorrow against No. 14 Florida Southern College at 2 p.m.
Sweeping doubles play, the Saints were led by
Simon Malis and
Aniss Rafiq who defeated Charlie Fremaux and Isaac Buerkle 6-1. The sealing point came from
Aly El Rafie and
Oliver Hradilek who defeated Tim Stemler and Noelle Andrey Ampong, 6-4.
Filip Kana and
Ilian Borlee earned their hard fought victory against Cameron Simpson and Marcus Bergelin, 7-5.
The Saints went five for six in singles. Kana gave the Saints the second point of the day after defeating Bergelin 6-1 and 6-3. Freshman
Raphael Rousson followed close behind, sealing his win against Stemler with a 6-2 and 6-3 win. Current No. 27
Simon Malis clinched the victory for the Saints, defeating Buerkle with two 6-3 sets. Current No. 29
Ilian Borlee added to the campaign with a 6-2 and 6-4 victory over Peru Bayo. The final win of the afternoon came from
Aly El Rafie who defeated Fremaux 6-1, 6-4 and 1-0 (10-3).
