ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College played at home today against Palm Beach Atlantic University in a non-conference doubleheader. The Saints won the opener 6-5 and lost 5-2 in the second game at Flagler Field.
The Saints are now 4-11, and Palm Beach Atlantic left at 3-9. Flagler will be home on Tuesday for another non-conference doubleheader against Nova Southeastern University at 1 p.m.
In the first game, after being down by two (5-3),
Kiley McQuillan led off the fifth with a single to third. She then advanced to second on a single through the right side by
Stephanie Daly. Justice hit a single up the middle, scoring McQuillan and advancing Daly to third.
Chloe Montalvo grounded out to the pitcher, which scored Daly with the game-winning run.
The Saints pushed across three runs in the first inning to grab the early lead.
Emily Ricci led off with a walk to start the rally.
Olivia Burns hit a single to shallow left to advance Ricci to second.
Hannah Smith singled to center field to advance Ricci to third and moved Burns to second.
McQuillan hit a two-run single up the middle to score Ricci and Burns. Daly was hit by a pitch to load the bases for
Raquelle Justice to hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Smith to make the score 3-1.
Riley Rowe (2-6) grabbed the win in the circle with five innings pitched. She allowed five runs, but only four were earned, and she struck out three. She faced 26 batters with nine fly-outs and six ground outs.
Alyssa Hunter received her first save of the season. She pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
McQuillan went 2-for-3 with two singles, a run, and two runs batted in. Justice went 1-for-2, scored a run, and had two runs batted in.
Lauren Allen (2-2) took the loss for the Sailfish. She surrendered three runs on three hits.
Holly Frankl collected two singles and scored a run for PBA.
In the second game, the Saints got hot in the first inning with a walk by Burns, who later scored from a double by McQuillan, making it 1-0.
In the second inning, Montalvo reached on a fielder's choice. She advanced to second on a single by
Mia Fisher. With a single up the middle by Ricci to load the bases, Burns had an RBI walk to make the score 2-0.
The Sailfish went on a run in the third inning. They scored five runs with the help of three errors and four hits to make the score 5-2.
Lauren Allen (3-2) got the win as she allowed two runs on four hits. Allen got 10 batters to ground out and five more to fly out.
Larken Maseda finished with three singles and a run scored, and she drove in a run. Dianna Montidoro collected two singles and scored a run for the Sailfish.
Jordan Sheets (0-3) took the loss for the Saints. Two of the five runs that scored were earned. She faced 30 batters, had one strikeout, had 10 batters ground out, and two had fly outs
Ricci went 2-for-4 with two singles. McQuillan had one hit with one run batted in. Burns had one run batted in.
