Trace McDonald of the No. 17 ranked Flagler College men's lacrosse team put the cap on the night in their 14-13 overtime win against Rollins College tonight at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
The Saints improved to 5-2 with the win while the Tars dropped their second consecutive overtime match, falling to 1-3 on the season. The Saints hit the road next week as they will face current No. 11 Saint Leo University on Saturday, Mar. 7 at 1 p.m.
The Tars and Saints came out swinging in the first period as the Saints led 6-5 going into the second. McDonald and
Ben Nyberg opened up the scoring for the Saints as they had a hand in the Saints four unanswered goals to open the game. Going down 10-8 from a five goal run by the Tars, the Saints battle back as
Will Linko intercepted a clear attempt and scored a one-on-one goal with 30 seconds left in regulations to send the game in to overtime.
Commanding the offense, McDonald tied his career high nine points off his four goal, five assist performance. Nyberg tied the match high four goals and also found two assists. On defense,
Ty Scheckenbach and
Brendan Watson finished with a team high two caused turnovers while Linko and
Payton Maxwell had a team high three ground balls. Splitting time in goal,
Jonah Smith finished with a match high five saves.
