ST. AUGUSTINE –
George Gilson's grand slam keyed a five-run seventh inning to help rally Flagler College to a 7-3 win over American International College in a non-conference baseball game Monday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 12-2 overall and swept the four-game series. American International dropped to 0-4. Flagler visits Rollins College this Wednesday at 2 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets held a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning. A hit batter, a single to left, and a walk loaded the bases for Gilson. He blasted a 1-2 pitch high over the left field wall to give the Saints the lead for good. Later in the frame,
Payton Palladino's infield single scored
Parker Stallard from third base.
Jacob Newman (2-0), who came on to pitch in relief in the top of the seventh, picked up the win. He allowed one hit in 1.1 innings pitched, and he struck out a batter.
Garrett Wright started and went 6.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
Parker Adams closed the game in the ninth inning.
Stallard finished 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and one run batted in. Palladino also had three hits, two of those were doubles, and he drove in two runs.
Eli Maddox collected two singles and
Taylor Shultz hit two singles and scored a run.
Alvin Gomez (0-1) tossed six-plus innings, and allowed four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. He wiggled out of a couple early jams thanks to three inning ending double plays.
Alex Dye and Aidan Streeter each had two singles.
