DAHLONEGA, Ga. –
Marley Smith's fourth double-double of the season, a game high 23 points and 11 rebounds, was not enough as the University of North Georgia defeated Flagler College 82-66 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the UNG Convocation Center.
North Georgia improved to 17-11 overall and 12-6 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 10-16 overall and 5-13 in conference play. The Saints have two games remaining in the season, both at home, and need to win both to qualify for the conference's postseason tournament. Flagler hosts Clayton State University this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Jaleah Storr sank a three-pointer with two seconds left in the second quarter, and that basket started a 10-0 run by North Georgia. Riley Simmons' layup with 8:04 left in the third quarter capped the two-minute spurt and gave the Nighthawks a commanding 49-35 lead.
Jessica Dowdy added 12 points for the Saints while
Carleigh Grimm came off the bench to provide 10 points and eight rebounds.
Dennaye Hinds tallied a season-high seven assists.
Averie Jones led North Georgia with 16 points and six rebounds. Ava McGlockton recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Zaynah Preston chipped in with 15 points and five assists. Hannah Cail tacked on 15 points. Simmons dished out seven assists.
