ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College scored the first five points in overtime and didn't look back in a 75-72 win over the University of South Carolina Beaufort in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday evening at Flagler Gymnasium.
With the win, Flagler improved to 10-15 overall and 5-12 in the Peach Belt Conference. USC Beaufort fell to 16-9 overall and 13-5 in conference play. The Saints will be travelling to play the University North Georgia this Saturday at 1:30 pm.
Natalie Herrin's layup with 16 seconds left to go in regulation tied the game at 63-all.
Gabby Bush made back-to-back layups to begin overtime for the Saints, and
Carleigh Grimm made the first of two free throws to give Flagler a 68-63 lead with 2:47 left to go.
The Sand Sharks rallied to within one point three times. Janiyah Heyward made a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left and USCB trailed 72-71.
Herrin was fouled and sank two free throws to push the Saints lead to three. Heyward missed a three-pointer to tie the game, and Herrin corralled the rebound. She was fouled and made the second of two free throws to give Flagler a 75-71 lead with 11 seconds on the clock.
Herrin finished with a team high 19 points and added nine rebounds as well as four assists.
Gabby Bush contributed 17 total points and five rebounds while
Marley Smith added 13 points. Grimm recorded her first double-double with 12 points and a game-high of 11 rebounds. She also had three blocked shots.
USC Beaufort was led by Lydia Gattozzi, who scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Heyward added 17 points and eight rebounds. Taniyah Bowman contributed 13 points for the Sand Sharks.
