ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 4 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) University of West Florida squeaked by No. 3 Flagler College 4-2 in a non-conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon in a semifinal match of the ITA Division II National Men's Team Indoor Championship at Farmer's Bank Fieldhouse.
West Florida improved to 4-0 while Flagler suffered its first loss and dropped to 3-1. The Saints will take on Washburn University tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the third-place match.
The Argonauts won the doubles point after posting identical 6-4 wins at Nos. 1 and 3. The nation's top-ranked tandem of Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon won their match over
Aniss Rafiq and
Ilian Borlee.
The Saints lost the first singles match, but managed to tie the score at 2-all after wins by
Filip Kana over No. 19 Rafael Sabio – 7-5 and 6-3, and No. 23 Borlee defeated Mark Neyelov 6-4, 6-7, and 6-2. West Florida would win matches at Nos. 1 and 5 singles to conclude the match.
