ST. AUGUSTINE — No. 22-ranked (WBCA Division II Top 25) Columbus State University outscored Flagler College 44-22 in the middle two quarters in route to an 82-57 victory Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game at Flagler Gymnasium.
With this loss, Flagler moved to 9-12 overall and 4-9 in the Peach Belt, while Columbus State improved to 17-3 overall and 11-2 in PBC. The Saints will host Middle Georgia State University this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
Flagler opened the game strong, holding a 19-9 advantage early in the first quarter, but Columbus State answered with a 20-2 run over the next 5:24 to seize the lead and never relinquish it.
The Lady Cougars outscored the Saints 25-11 in the second quarter and took the third quarter, 19-11.
Flagler was led by
Emerson Kutz, who scored a team high 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including three shots from beyond the arc.
Dennaye Hinds added nine points while
Gabby Bush and
Natalie Herrin each contributed eight points. Herrin grabbed a team high seven rebounds.
Aspen Weeks tacked on six points and five rebounds.
Columbus State was headed by Sophia Williams, who scored a game high 19 points while adding six rebounds and four assists. Letiya Reeves added 15 points and nine rebounds while Nadea Smith chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds. Alana Hankerson came off the bench to supply 11 points, and Samara Saunders contributed 10 points.
The Lady Cougars capitalized at the free-throw line, shooting 27-of-36 from the charity stripe.
