MACON, Ga. - With the Sunshine State Conference on the horizon, the Flagler College women's cross country team looks toward Saturday as they compete in their final Peach Belt Conference Cross Country Championship, held at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course.
Reining champions for the past nine seasons, Flagler enters the race as potential underdogs despite the rich history. This season Flagler's core competed in two races, the Chargers Invite and the FSU XC Invitational. Facing relevant competition, Flagler managed an 11th place finish while competing in Huntsville. Sitting ahead was Augusta University who managed a 10th place finish, followed by Georgia College & State University in 19th.
The story of this season revolves around the Flagler's underclassman who posses their three fastest times in the 6k. Sophomore
Hanna Warren and Freshman
Izzy Harter have sat atop Flagler's leader boards in both their races as they traded first and second place. Warren ended the Chargers Invite with a 22:07.90, the third fastest time in the conference. Harter ran a respectable 22:17.5 in Huntsville as well, placing her at the fifth fastest in the conference. Flagler has three Saints in
Marie Meyer-Piton(6th), Jesse Gates(7th) and
Rhiannon Hill(9th) to round out the top-10. Looking to ride the momentum of their previous race, 14 Saints including eight of their top finishers checked in a new personal record two weeks ago.
For the first time, the conference championship will be held at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course, hosted by Middle Georgia State University. The historic course has been home to multiple Division I conference championships such as the Atlantic Sun and Southern Conference. The 5k will begin at 10:15 AM, at the conclusion of the men's race.
