PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 7 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) University of West Florida scored three unanswered goals to defeat Flagler College 3-1 in a non-conference women's soccer match Thursday afternoon at the UWF Soccer Complex.
This was the season opener for both teams. Flagler plays its home opener on Wednesday (Sept. 10) at 6 p.m. against Eckerd College at Saints Field.
The Saints got on the board first as
Avery Raimondo fired a shot from the top of the box into the lower left corner of the goal in the 11
th minute.
Bella Faherty assisted on the goal.
The Argonauts scored two goals before the end of the first half. JoHanna Peterson scored an unassisted goal in the 22
nd minute to tie the match. West Florida took the lead on Hunter Wallace's goal in the 43
rd minute.
Olof Thorvaldsdottier capped the scoring for UWF in the 60
th minute.
Faherty and
Brooke Rienecker each had two shots for Flagler. Megan Gettys led West Florida with three shots.
Belle Okoroafo tallied three saves for the Argonauts.
Henley Grunst and
Madi Narducci split the match for the Saints and each recorded one save.
West Florida out-shot Flagler 12-8 and held a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks. Flagler committed 11 fouls while West Florida had nine.
