ST. AUGUSTINE –
Paige Churchill scored a goal and added an assist as Flagler College defeated Eckerd College 3-1 in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday night at Saints Field.
Flagler evened its record to 1-1-0 this season. In its last 11 home openers, Flagler has an 8-0-3 record. Eckerd leaves with an even 1-1-1 record. Up next for the Saints is a road match against Florida Tech on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Melbourne.
Churchill scored the first goal of the match in the 20
th minute. The Tritons turned the ball over in their own end of the field as
Ashley Wagner applied pressure in front of the Eckerd bench.
Aiyana Leslie gathered the ball, had a one touch pass to
Avery Raimondo near the top of the box. Her short pass went to Churchill in the middle of the box who then sent a left-footed shot under the cross bar.
The Saints got the insurance goal in the 31
st minute when
Presley Ancheta scored off of
Hannah Hughes corner kick that went to the back post.
Jasmine Gallo got the Tritons on the board in the 70
th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Carrie Consolino wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 79
th minute off a Churchill assist.
Madi Narducci collected four saves for the Saints while Zoe Brasher finished with seven for the Tritons.
Flagler out-shot Eckerd 16-12, but the Tritons held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. The Saints finished with eight fouls while the Tritons had five.
