ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Alex Alexandrou broke a scoreless tie with his goal in the 79th minute as Flagler College edged Middle Georgia State University 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match today at Saints Field.
Flagler is 5-0-1 in its last six matches and improved to 5-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the Peach Belt. Middle Georgia State University fell to 2-3-2 overall and 0-3-1 in PBC. The Saints continue on in the Peach Belt on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. where they will travel to play Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus.
The match remained a fierce competition throughout the first half, with both teams playing hard. Alexandrou regained the Saints' momentum following a shot on frame by Rahjae Nelson of Middle Georgia that was saved. He finished in the lower left corner of the net off a
Luke Williams pass that drew thunderous cheers from the crowd.
Ryan Rivas earned his fifth clean sheet of the season, and third in a row, as he tallied two saves. CJ Wyborn recorded five saves for the Knights.
Flagler out-shot Middle Georgia 13-5 and Alexandrou led the way with four shots for the Saints. Flagler held a 9-3 advantage over Middle Georgia in corner kicks. The Knights were whistled for 11 fouls while the Saints had 10 infractions.
