ST. AUGUSTINE –
Carrie Consolino put Flagler College on top early but No. 5 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia rallied to score two second half goals to earn a 2-1 win in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field.
North Georgia remains undefeated with a 6-0-1 overall record and a 2-0-0 mark in conference play. Flagler is now 3-2-1 overall this season and 1-1-0 in the Peach Belt. The Saints host Georgia College & State University on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Blanca Cruz scored the game-winning goal for North Georgia in the 69
th minute. After a ball was lobbed into the box, the loose ball eventually found Cruz who made a move around a defender and then chipped the keeper.
Haley Stafford served a ball from the left to the top right-side of the box to Consolino, who then one-touched the ball with her left foot and tucked the shot inside the left post to give the Saints the lead in the seventh minute.
Bailey Oetinger cleaned up a loose ball in front of Flagler's goal in the 51
st minute for the equalizer.
Isabelle Lee made two saves for North Georgia while
Madi Narducci finished with six saves for Flagler.
The Nighthawks out-shot the Saints 19-5 and was led by Nina Lopez and her four shots. North Georgia held an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. Flagler committed 11 fouls while UNG was caught six times.
