COCHRAN, Ga. –
Carrie Consolino scored a pair of goals in Flagler College's 3-0 victory over Middle Georgia State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Nesmith Field.
Flagler improved to 3-1-1 this season while Middle Georgia dropped to 1-1-3. The Saints are now 5-0-4 in their last nine league openers. Flagler's last loss in a conference opener was Sept. 21, 2013 when Clayton State University escaped with a 1-0 win at Saints Field. This as the first meeting between the two schools. Middle Georgia is in its first year of membership in the league. Up next for the Saints is No. 10 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia on Wednesday at noon at Saints Field.
In the 34
th minute, Consolino cleaned up a saved penalty kick attempt with a one-touch into the middle of the goal. The initial penalty shot hit the right post and the follow-up was saved, but the ball was not secured, and Consolino had a wide-open goal.
She added another goal in the 59
th minute while
Avery Raimondo finished the scoring with a goal of her own in the 77
th minute.
Madi Narducci and
Henley Grunst combined on the shutout. Narducci tallied three saves. Hollie Keefe collected eight saves for the Knights.
Flagler out-shot Middle Georgia 14-5 with Consolino and
Anastasia Whitehouse leading the way with four shots apiece. The Saints held a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Middle Georgia committed nine fouls to Flagler's six.
